FINALS - GENTS INDIVIDUALS AND PAIRS
In the final of the pairs Mark Rice and Gary Watts from Claremont took the title in a
closely fought contest over Mick Brooks and Dave Hughes from Walton Social Club. Earlier
in the semi finals Mark and Gary had beaten team mates Dave Farrington and Joe Palfreyman
in a match that could have gone either way. MIn the other semi final Mick and Dave had
beaten father and son Ian Lang senior and junior from Anglesea.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK AND GARY.
In the final of the Individuals Mick Brooks put the disappointment of the pairs final behind
him to beat Dave Farrington and take the crown for the fourth time, incredibly Mick's first
title was in 1994. It wasn't a good night for last year's winner Joe Palfreyman who was
defeated by his pairs partner Dave in the semi final. Mick had accounted for his pairs partner
Dave Hughes in the other semi final.
CONGRATULATIONS TO MICK.
FINALS - LADIES INDIVIDUALS AND PAIRS
In the pairs competition last years runners up Jan Hardman and Joyce Brown from Peg Legs went
one better this time beating Sue Cocklin and Helen Moran from Fogherty's. This was the third
title for Jan and Joyce together, nine years after their last win.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JAN AND JOYCE
In the final of the individuals Karen O'Connor from Peg Legs beat her team mate Jan Hardman
which stopped Jan from completing a hat-trick of titles in the last three years. This was
Karen's second win in the competition.
CONGRATULATIONS TO KAREN.

FINALS - GENTS PRESIDENTS CUP
On Monday night Claremont beat walton Social Club in the final of the Presidents Cup
in a match that went all the way to the last game. Both players had chances to win
the match for their team but it was Dave Farrington who edged it against Eddie Morgan.
In the semi-finals Claremont beat Ship & Mitre "B" while Walton accounted for Cuffs.
FINALS - LADIES KNOCK OUT and CHARLIE FROST
In the final of the Ladies Knock-Out cup favourites Peg Legs beat Picton Road after
knocking out Newstead in the semi-final. Picton had beaten Barley Mow in the other semi.
In the final of the Charlie Frost competition Mary McGovern from Peg Legs was up against
a resilient Madge Wild from Derby Deys. In the first leg Mary raced into the lead but
double trouble set in and Madge took full advantage to steal the leg. In the second leg
it was nip and tuck with Mary taking the leg to even the score. In the deciding leg both
players had chances at their double but it was Mary who held her nerve to take the match.

SAD NEWS
Unfortunately I open this report with the sad news of the loss of two of our long
standing Ladies members in recent days.
Margie Scholfield from the Wellington/Picton Road Ladies team and Jean Webster from
the Derby Deys/Derby Mills Ladies. Our condolences and best wishes go their families
and friends.
A minutes applause was held for both Margie and Jean at the Ladies Finals night.
FINALS - GENTS
Monday night saw the finals of the Gents five-a-side and secretaries. In the five-a-side
Claremont beat Ship & Mitre in the first semi-final while Newstead beat St Teresa's in
the second semi-final. In a final that went down to the wire Claremont beat Newstead 3-2
to retain the cup they won last year.
In the secretaries competition Claremont completed a clean sweep on the night with Paul
Azzopardi overcoming Dave McCabe from the Anglesea in the final. I'm sure that's not the
last we'll hear on the subject - only joking Paul !!
FINALS - LADIES
On Tuesday night it was the Ladies turn to compete in their five-a-side and secretaries
competitions. In the fives both Fogherty's teams lost their semi-finals, the "B" side were
beaten by Peg Legs, while the "A" were beaten by Newstead. In the final Peg Legs beat
Newstead by three games to one. Spare a thought for the Newstead who have now finished
Runners-Up five times in the last six years.
In the final of the secretaries Rhona Frith from Barley Mow beat Karen Baker from the Derby
Deys. This was Karen's third appearance in the final in the last five years but unfortunately
with the same result as the previous appearances, unlucky Karen.

Mixed Pairs final in the last eight years, of which he has won five.

St Agnes beat Abbey Road in a re-arranged game which ensures they retain their title. Claremont
and Walton are left to fight it out for second place. Anglesea and McGinty's are relegated.
In "A" Section Ship and Mitre "B" were already confirmed as champions. Cuffs beat Clubmoor in
their last game of the season and take the runners up spot.
Congratulations to St Agnes and Ship "B".

SHIP & MITRE "B" - SECTION WINNERS
Congratulations to Ship & Mitre "B" who with one game left are four points ahead of their
nearest challengers and therefore are crowned winners of Gents Section "A". The fight is
still on for second place with Cuffs needing to win their last game to secure the runner
up prize.
Elsewhere in the Premier Section the championship is still undecided. With a number of
re-arranged games still to be completed any one of three teams could still take the title.
MIXED PAIRS FINAL
This will be held at the Walton Social Club on Tuesday 14th May. Because the AGM is being
held on the same night the SCRATCH TIME for the Mixed Pairs Final will be 9.00pm to allow
people to attend both the AGM and the Final.

LATEST NEWS ON ST GEORGE'S DAY
Newstead and Walton played two matches last night with each team winning one match. That
result has almost handed the title to St Agnes. There are still a number of re-arranged
fixtures to be played and if St Agnes were to slip up in their games against Abbey Road
the match between Claremont and Walton could prove crucial.
In "A" section Glasshouse lost to Village while Cuffs "A" and Ship "B" both won. With only
a few games left Ship "B" are within touching distance of taking the section title.

LATEST NEWS
With one remaining week of the season in the Premier Section plus a number of re-arranged
games still to be played the title could go to any of the top four teams. In the big match
at the bottom of the table Anglesea beat McGinty's to move two points clear and with one
game left to play it looks like McGinty's will finish with the wooden spoon.
In the "A" section wins for Ship & Mitre "B", Cuffs and Glasshouse it is still very tight
and with three matches to go the teams at the top have games against each other which look
like proving crucial to who wins the title. The squeaking is getting louder !!!
With nearly all games completed in the Ladies section its still between Picton and Derby
Deys for second place. Peg Legs were declared champions a couple of weeks ago and the only
other position that can be confirmed is the wooden spoonists - NEWSTEAD.
RE-ARRANGED GAMES
For those teams in the Premier section who still have re-arranged games left to play there
are two dates available - 29th April and 13th May. Can secretaries make every effort to get
outstanding fixtures played on these dates please.

registration fee. Player registration forms don't need to be returned until the meeting in July.
DATES FOR FINAL GAMES IN "A" SECTION
The dates for the final two games in the Gents "A" Section have been confirmed as :-
Monday 29th April
Monday 13th May
COMPETITION SCRATCH TIME
THE SCRATCH TIME FOR ALL COMPETITION FINALS IS 8:30pm
LEAGUE SUBS
All monthly subs for this year, including June, must be paid at the next meeting in May. There
will be no league meeting in June
LEAGUE A.G.M.
This year's A.G.M. will be held on 14th May. All items for the A.G.M. should be put in writing
and given to the League Secretary no later than seven days before the meeting.
LADIES SECTION
This year we had six teams in the ladies section. There are rumours that two of those teams will
be leaving this year leaving us with four teams. Unless we can get more teams to join the league
this will probably be the final year.
If you know of any teams that wish to join the league then let me know.
For a long time some of the Ladies teams have complained about a number of the rules in the league
and put this forward as a reason for teams leaving the league. If this is the case then maybe they
should come forward and try to change the rules at the A.G.M. Therefore in an effort to try and
save the Ladies section there will be an open forum at this year's A.G.M. for any of the Ladies
to put forward their views on what changes can be made. This will be open to any new teams who may
be thinking of joining the league.

SQUEAKY BUM TIME
Its getting to the final stages of the season and in the Gents Sections there is still
everything to play for.
In the Premier Section Newstead "A" look to have blown their chance of winning the title after
losing a double header against Abbey Road. On paper St Agnes appear to have the easiest run in
as Claremont have still to play Walton and Newstead have to play Walton twice.
In the Gents "A" Section Ship & Mitre "B" took the spoils against Cuffs to open up a four point
gap over the other teams. Cuffs, Village and Glasshouse have all to play each other before the
end of the season which may give Ship and Mitre "B" the advantage.
In the Ladies Section Peg Legs only need to win one of their remaining two games to wrap up the
title but I'm sure Picton will fight to the end. Newstead look virtually certain to finish at
the bottom.
LEAGUE SUBS - REMINDER
Another reminder to all teams - you must be fully paid up to date by the April league meeting.
Failure to comply will result in any members of their team being excluded from this seasons
competitions.

LATEST GENTS RESULTS
In the Gents Premier Section top of the table Claremont lost to St Teresa's allowing Walton
Social Club to go level with a game in hand. St Agnes and Newstead "A" won to remain close
behind the top two. At the bottom it was business as usual with Anglesea and McGinty's losing
to remain firmly anchored to the foot of the table. With only a few games remaining the wooden
spoon could be decided on 15th April when both teams meet.
In the Gents "A" Section the local derby between the Ship & Mitre teams resulted in a win for
the "B" team keeping them two points clear of Cuffs "A" who beat St Cecelia's. A surprise defeat
for The Village by Newstead "B" means they lose ground on the top team. Glasshouse beat Clubmoor
and with a game in hand could join Cuffs & Village in second place.

Claremont, St Agnes and Walton all win while Newstead "A" and St Teresa's both lose.
In the top game of the night St Agnes and Newstead played out a close 5-4 match which
could have gone either way. A win for Newstead would have put a big dent in the Aggies'
hopes of retaining their title but as it turned out it keeps it all bubbling nicely at
the top of the Premier Section.
In "A" Section the two teams level on points met with Ship & Mitre "B" edging the match

LATEST UPDATES
The two teams at the bottom of the Premier Section had mixed fortunes this week with
Anglesea overcoming high flying St Teresa's 5-4 while McGinty's narrowly lost to
Newstead "A". Claremont continued their resurgence with a victory over last year's
champions St Agnes. Walton Social Club with a win over Connerty's and Abbey Road with
a win over Liver Vaults were the other victors on the night.
In the Gents "A" Section top of the table Ship & Mitre "B" were brought down to earth
with an 8-1 defeat at Newstead "B" (I believe a certain Mr Billy Foster is to buy the
chips for the Newstead team). St Cecelia's whitewashed Clubmoor to move off the bottom
of the table. Elsewhere Village and Cuffs returned to winning ways with wins over
Glasshouse and Ship & Mitre "A" respectively.
In the Ladies Section Peg Legs continue to win their matches while the teams below
continue to take points off each other. This week saw Peg Legs beat Newstead 6-1 while

LATEST RESULTS
The top of the Premier section is starting to get interesting with 5 teams in the mix.
Last night Walton put themselves back into contention with a win over St Agnes while
Claremont strengthened their hopes with a win over Newstead "A". Meanwhile St Teresa's
quietly go about their business and sit handily placed. After five defeats on the bounce
Connerty's returned to winning ways beating Liver Vaults while at the bottom Anglesea
and McGinty's remain adrift.
In the "A" Section Ship & Mitre "B" and Village are now starting to put some daylight
between themselves and the other teams and have opened a six point gap. The Ship B's
defeat of Glasshouse included a rare win for team stalwart Ryan Tilman on his birthday

St Teresa's recovered from their defeat last week to overcome Abbey Road while at the bottom
its all hotting up with Anglesea beating Connerty's to swap positions with McGinty's who lost
to Claremont.
In the "A" Section top clubs Village and Ship & Mitre "B" continue their winning ways and

In "B" section its all change once more. This time last weeks leaders, Clubmoor Cons, lost
to Newstead "B" while Ship & Mitre "B", who look to be putting a run together, go to the
top of the table together with Village.
In Ladies section its becoming difficult for many of the teams to achieve any consistency,

POSSIBLE RE-JIG OF FIXTURES IN MENS "A" SECTION
It now looks almost certain that Bradleys have resigned from the league. I've added
a proposed set of rejigged fixtures that can kick in after games played on September 17.
This would allow each team to play each other four times in total and also allow each
team to have game every week without missing weeks where teams have dropped out of the
league. Click on link below to see the proposed rejigged fixtures .
Proposed Rejig of Fixtures
Because of the number of pubs that have more than one team in the Premier and in the
"A" section its not possible to easily change fixtures part way through the season.
Teams need to be aware that with the rejigged fixtures they may have a run of home games
followed by a run of away games - though the end result will be that each team will have
played every other team twice at home and twice away.
These rejigged fixtures are for discussion at the September meeting

POSSIBLE RE-JIG OF FIXTURES IN MENS "A" SECTION

If Bradleys were to go then it will only leave 8 teams in the "A" Section which will
lead to teams not having a game for a number of weeks. If teams agree then there is
a possibility of changing the "A" Section so that all teams play each other FOUR times
instead of the THREE times as now.
However it will mean that all the fixtures after the game played on 17th September
would need to be re-jigged. It would also mean that fixtures would not flow as they
do now - where the first set of games are played over nine weeks, then reversed for
next nine weeks and then reversed again for the last nine weeks. Because of the number
of pubs that have two teams ie: one in the Premier and one in the "A" section its not
possible to easily change fixtures part way through the season.
Therefore teams may find the fixtures appear to be out of order but you will still play
four games against each team but it might not be in the order of home, away, home and
away.
I will prepare a revised fixture list once I know that Bradley's are no longer staying
in the league and post it on this site. It will be up to the teams in the "A" section
to vote on the new format at the September meeting.

SHOCK DEFEAT FOR CHAMPIONS
Last year's champions St Agnes suffered a surprise 5 - 4 defeat to St Teresa's
which means there are no undefeated teams left in the Premier section while
McGinty's are the only team still to register any points.
In the "A" section Cuffs and Newstead remain undefeated.

REMINDER
Player Registrations and Competition forms are due at the next meeting on the
14th August.
RESULTS
With the game between St Agnes and Abbey Road being postponed we now have four
teams joint top of the Premier Section with only St Agnes still undefeated.
In the "A" Section three teams are still undefeated but Cuffs remain top having
played more games than the others.
In the Ladies Section it will take time before any pattern emerges because of the
resignation of two of the teams. Amazingly each of the remaining teams have lost
at least one match already.

PLAYER REGISTRATIONS
Some teams have not yet provided their player registration forms. They must be in
by the next league meeting. Failure to do so may result in points being deducted.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!
RESULTS
Both teams top of Premier and "A" Sections remain unbeaten. In the Ladies Section
last year's champions Peg Legs (ex Vinebrook) suffer their first defeat of the
season against Derby Deys in only their second game of the season.

24th July - Another team resigned
COCK and BOTTLE in Gents section have not started the season.
RESULTS
In the Premier section St Agnes scrape home with a narrow 5 - 4 win against
the Claremont. Last years "A" section winners have got off to a flying start
with two wins in their first two matches. Walton Social Club get off the mark
with a close fought match against Connertys eventually winning 5 - 4.
In "A" Section Cuffs "A" are looking like the team to beat with two wins out
of two. Will they be able to stay the course ?
With the Ladies section seriously disrupted by the two resignations of Mayfair
and Cock & Bottle it may take some time before the league table takes shape.
Newstead appear to have started well winning their first two matches of the
season.

18th July - Another team resigned
COCK and BOTTLE in Ladies section have not started the season.
RESULTS
First results are on the site. In the big match in the Premier Section last
year's champions St Agnes beat last year's runners up Walton Social Club. Newly
promoted St Teresa'a (The Connie) got off to a flying start with a 7-2 win over
McGinty's.
In the "A" section Cuffs beat Glasshouse and St Cecelia's beat Bradleys. There
is a doubt over the Cock and Bottle gents team who failed to turn up for their
first home game of the season. I'm awaiting confirmation from the team secretary.
